My Book ‘Heart Over Reason’: Behind the Scenes 📖

Heart Over Reason is my debut novel, and the journey to its creation has been quite the adventure. Before I became an author, I worked a corporate job that I dedicated a lot of time to. While I was growing in the business world, I realized that this wasn’t the path I wanted to stay on forever.

After getting back into reading, I dug out my old laptop and started writing small pieces like poems, thoughts, and even a short story. I remembered my old online writing account and began publishing the chapters of my short story. Soon after, I registered for a writing challenge with that story... and I won.

Spurred on by that success, I needed a new challenge and project to dive into for the next writing contest. That’s when Heart Over Reason was born. I enrolled the first chapters into the challenge and, to my surprise, I won again. This opened up the opportunity for me to join a writing scholarship program, where I learned invaluable insights on how to craft the perfect novel, including the theory behind the practice. By the end of the program, I had my very first draft.

What sparked the novel?

I wanted to write a love triangle to challenge myself, and using an office setting made sense, given my background as a former corporate girl. It was easier to immerse myself in that environment.

What did I learn?

Dreams don’t build themselves over time.

They take hard work, and I poured that into this novel. Writing doesn’t end with the first draft. It’s just the beginning of a long journey, and I’m learning more every day. From editing to formatting to managing social media.
